Following is a proposed outline for each District to use for training the District Officers. Any questions, comments or suggestions should be directed to MD5M Leadership Development Chair.
Purpose:
Leadership training for District officers is essential. Good leadership qualities are required for the District Officer to be successful in his/her position. The District Officer Training should prepare each officer with the information and tools required for them to be successful in their assigned position. In addition the District Officers should provide valuable examples of good leadership to the Lions Clubs and their members. Serving as a District Officer is also a training ground for our future District Governors, Cabinet Chairs, International Directors and more. Serving as an officer on the District Governors Cabinet is an honor. However each position has a very important set of duties, duties that must be done well if the District is to be successful. The District Governor selects the people that he/she believes is the best person for each job. The Leadership Training then gives each officer the precise information he/she needs to be successful in their job.
Timing and Duration of Training:
All officers should be trained prior to July 1, the beginning of their term of office.
The training session should be a minimum of 2 hours. There must be ample time to discuss the duties of the position. This is the time for the District Governor Elect to carefully and thoroughly define what is expected and required to be successful in the position.
Training Responsibilities:
The District Officer Training should be the joint responsibility of the District Governor Elect and the District Leadership Development Chair(s). The Vice District Governor Elect could also assist with the training.
